Junior AFL continues to grow in Forbes on the back of a COVID hit 2020. The Swampies have become the newest junior sporting club in Forbes after being incorporated earlier this year. The year got off to a rough start in 2021 after the merger with the Cowra Blues fell over at the last minute, however the Orange Tigers were willing to help us out and were happy to merge with Swampies in 2021, as a result in 2021 Forbes has six kids and one from Grenfell playing Under 12's Junior football each week.
The Swamp Tigers currently sit third in the Central West AFL under 12's competition after 2 wins and four losses. The most recent game v Bathurst Giants the Swamp Tigers were undermanned with several players unavailable against the league leaders but the teams put up a solid effort to go down 1.1-7 to 5.13-43.
The loss leaves the Swamp Tigers in third position on the ladder but still in finals contention. Best on ground were J Sara, Tyson McLennan and Michael Amey.
The Central West Junior AFL starts again this weekend after the June long weekend break and sees the Swamp Tigers away to the Dubbo Demons - the game v the Dubbo Demons will see the blue and white hoops of Forbes debut for the first time.
The Swamp Tigers have been competitive and continue to improve each week. Many of the kids in 2021 are seeing them play competitive AFL for the first time after graduating from Auskick in 2019 and 2020.
If any kids would to get an idea of what junior AFL is like kids are welcome to attend junior training, which is held each Friday afternoon at 4pm at Gaggin Oval
The Forbes Swampies have secured sponsorship from Massey Ferguson in 2021 and received a very generous donation from Mrs Pat Duncan in support of the club and due to the successful grant from St George bank managed to secure the equipment needed to ensure the club can provide the kids the best experience possible and learn the game.
Registrations are now open for the clubs Auskick season and can be accessed via https://play.afl/auskick which commences on the later date in of July 16 in 2021. NAB AFL Auskick is simply the best introduction for kids into the world of Australian Football.
Auskickers run, jump, kick, laugh, express themselves and create their own special moments that just happens to be footy. No matter if you know or want to play the game or not, Auskick is inclusive for everyone aged 5-12 at any ability to play. Cost for 2021 is $70 and includes the Auskick pack and the opportunity to participate in half time Auskick at an AFL game in Sydney.
