Mayor Phyllis Miller made the sale announcement on the Forbes Shire Council Facebook page on Tuesday night.

"Our old abattoir site has been sold," she said in a video.

"(The buyers) are looking to re-purpose the old abattoir site and they've got some great ideas on what they want to do so watch this space.

"This is going to be another amazing development in Forbes."

Paul Johnston is based in Forbes and involved in the redevelopment of the property with Rob Britt from Brisull Investments who is based in Sydney, and he says the area has a lot of potential.

He's been working with Forbes Shire Council to identify what the community needs and wants and there are plenty of potential uses for this site, naturally subject to rezoning and development applications.

The location has been identified as ideal for commercial / residential blocks varying from one to two-and-a-half acres in size, and there is even the possibility of developing part of it as a recreational area.

The developers are already "putting feelers out" to a number of parties about repurposing the large building itself.

The former abattoir that was on site closed in 2003.

"This is a long-term project and it's about what's going to be of benefit to the community," Mr Johnston said.

He had been made aware of the property through family connections in town, but added the council's can-do attitude had been a big attraction.

"The council has been really excellent," Mr Johnston said.

"They are really looking out for the future of the town and the community, to attract jobs and make the place nice and presentable, and provide opportunities for it to grow."

A reminder that there is to be no trespassing at the site, it is private property.

"We are very concerned about people thinking they can walk onto the site," Mr Johnston said.
