Darren Joshua Nolan (23) of Farnell Street, Forbes has plead guilty to a charge of break and enter a house and steal items worth equal to or less than $60,000 in value.
According to facts tendered to Parkes Local Court on October 7, around 6:30 am on Wednesday, April 28, the victim left his house on Farnell Street for work, securing it as he left.
Around 1pm, the victim returned to his property and upon entry discovered doors he had left closed were open, and that almost every drawer and cupboard in the residence had been opened.
The victim observed the rear door was ajar and the window beside the door smashed.
In the facts tendered to the court, it is alleged that Nolan smashed the window and placed his hand through it to open the door.
Several items were stolen from the property including several bottles of alcohol (spirits), and two watches.
A forensic examination was conducted including a DNA swab from the broken window. The DNA collected was uploaded to the database and matched with Nolan.
On August 24, Nolan was brought from Junee Correctional Centre to Wagga Wagga Police Station and entered into police custody.
Nolan read out an apology letter to the court for committing the offence.
Magistrate McCarron said the facts of the case are relatively unremarkable in that he effectively ransacked the house.
Nolan was sentenced to a term of imprisonment for 12 months with a seven month non parole period.
