Get to know local driver Mel Sinclair

You may know him as the man behind the annual Christmas Light tours around Forbes and for his tour buses, but how well do you know Mel Sinclair from CenWest Tours?

As part of an ongoing series, the Forbes Advocate recently caught up with one of Forbes's best known charter bus and limousine drivers.

In your own words please describe the business/industry you are in.

Helping people to make memories through travel and experience.

How long have you been in business/worked in the industry?

We have been in the travel/tourism industry now for just over six years.

What inspired you to open your business/join your industry?

The desire to be my own boss as well as work in an industry that allows us to collaborate with like-minded people who want to enjoy themselves.

Who is someone you admire and why?

David Walker, from Walkers Ag-N-Vet, took me under his wing 40 years ago and taught me the benefits of good customer service and how it impacts your business.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I thought I was going to follow in my father's footsteps as a farmer.

What did you do before you started your business/in your industry?

I spent just on 30 years in the rural retail industry with Walkers Ag-N-Vet and also managed Dalgety and Elders for a period.

What advice do you have for other locals?

Especially after the hardship of the last 20 months, spend as much money in our own town as you can to help build our local economy back up.

Do you have any future plans for your business/industry?

We have two coaches, two minibuses (one with wheelchair accessibility) and a limousine so I am hoping that should be enough to keep me busy until I retire in around five to seven years.

Who is your biggest supporter?

The community of Forbes. We would not be here without them.

Do you have any thoughts on what could help local businesses/industries?

I think our local business could benefit by getting involved with their clientele especially our visitors - tell them what is here and sell our town.

We have so much to offer and who knows if we can keep them busy enough, they might stay another night or at least make it back to Forbes on their way home.

What are some of your hobbies, interests, sports etc?

They say if you love your job, you never work a day in your life.

I love what I do, my family and our garden.
