What you need to do
Prepare your property, help avoid damage to your belongings:
- Place electrical and important belongings on tables, beds, benches and shelves above predicted flood levels. You may be able to place some light-weight items in the roof space.
- Request sandbags by calling 132 500 and place them around doorways and in toilets and over drains to prevent rising water and sewage.
- Be ready to evacuate so you can leave quickly and safely if flooding gets worse:
- Have your mobile close and pack your car with your charger, medicines, rain gear, warm clothes, blankets, baby necessities, water, food, a torch, something to attract attention, and valuables like photos and important records. Dress in warm clothes and strong shoes.
- Decide whether you will go to the home of family or friends who are in a safe location away from present and potential flooding or if you will go to a nearby evacuation centre.
- Prepare supplies for your pets now. Take your pets with you as you evacuate.
