Greyhound Racing NSW has announced a first for the sport with the public to select the dog which will represent the organisation - and people of NSW - in the $750,000 TAB Phoenix in December.
In September, GRNSW secured one of the eight slots in the sport's newest event at The Meadows in Melbourne on December 18.
The event is similar to thoroughbred racing's Everest with slot holders selecting a runner to represent them in the race.
GRNSW has assembled a list of the State's leading greyhounds and handed the selection process over to the general public, who will vote on which dog will take the GRNSW slot.
On Monday GRNSW announced the list of 10 greyhounds in contention for the organisation's slot in the $1.145 million feature event to be run at The Meadows on December 18.
Jungle Deuce, trained right here by Raymond Smith at Irinka Kennels is in the running.
Now it's your turn to vote for the one to represent you and the people of NSW when they take on the best of the best in the sport's newest feature race.
Head over to the website to cast your vote - and remember you can get in a vote a day through to Sunday.
Smith says Jungle Deuce is in good form - and he's won at The Meadows in the past.
"If he gets in, he'll certainly make his presence felt," he said.
Not only that, the kennels will give $5000 to charity.
There is an added incentive to vote. One lucky voter will be drawn and they have the opportunity to cash in on the Phoenix riches as well.
Should the GRNSW dog win the first prize of $750,000, the lucky voter will walk away with $50,000.
Regardless of where the GRNSW slot greyhound finishes, the successful voter will win a cash prize.
And in one for the locals, Smith says he'll shout the Sports Bar at The Forbes Inn that night.
