The spotlight is about to shine on the Casino Greyhound Club with plans to complete the installation of a new lighting system at the Northern Rivers' track before Christmas.

Work on the $500,000 project at Casino had been underway for a number of months before a delay due to importing the light poles from overseas.

The poles are now expected to arrive next week, and the installation of the state of the art LED lighting system should be completed soon after.

The project, which is jointly funded by the Government's Track and Welfare Grant Funds and funding from the Casino Club, will allow for more flexibility around racing options at Casino.

"We're all very excited about it, here at the club and all of our local participants too," the Casino club committeeman Luke Mason said.

"In the heat of summer up here it does get very hot, and we sometimes see the forecast temperature above what is safe for racing.

"In those situations we have moved back to an early morning start before the heat hits, but with lights it gives us the option of also moving a meeting later into the evening."

The Casino club is extremely popular with participants in the Northern Rivers.

The circle track differs from both the Lismore and Grafton tracks, giving trainers yet another option for racing.
