Regional Australians have remained resilient throughout the COVID 19 pandemic.

I again thank every resident in the Riverina and Central West who has played their part to get the vaccination to not only protect themselves, but their family, friends and their whole community.

Regional areas have been through it all in the past two years - drought, fires, floods, a mice plague and the health and economic impacts of a global pandemic.

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program is delivering locally prioritised projects to communities and engaging with local contractors and businesses to drive the Forbes Shire economy as we continue our recovery.

I know the importance of continuing to invest in our regions so that we can continue driving the local economy because when our regions are strong so, too, is our nation.

Michael McCormack, Federal Member for Riverina

I was fortunate, when restrictions were eased enough, to visit Local Government Areas in my Riverina Electorate to see progress on the more than $54 million being rolled out over three phases of the LRCI.

For the Forbes Shire, this includes worthwhile projects such as the new access road to the site of the new Visitors Information Centre on the southern entrance to Forbes, the refurbishment and repair of the heated pool facility, installation of closed-circuit television throughout the Forbes CBD, the widening of Yarrabandai Road and improvements to the Lions Park, including the restoration of the picnic shelter, the installation of a rotunda at Lions Park, and irrigation and electricity supply upgrades.

As a local MP, I have been buoyed by the optimism of those in my electorate. Regional and rural Australians are built tough and I am proud to represent a region full of positive spirit and determined endeavour.

It has been a busy and eventful year and I am grateful and thankful for the support and kindness shown to my family, staff and me.

Like the first Christmas, may we all rediscover the joy of simple things in life and endeavour to share this with those around us. As the end of the year draws near - Catherine, my family, staff and I extend our best wishes to all for a Happy Christmas and a successful 2022.
