In the A and B Pairs his lead was 'Booza' Bolam with the combination winning a nail biter 16-15 over Paul Baker and Christian West over the scheduled 21 ends.
The two B's jumped best to lead 9-2 after eight ends then 14-9 after 16. The Baker/West pairing were up to the challenge over the final five ends ends winning them 6-2, more so on end 20 making the score 15-all. One on the last was enough for the Bolam/Bailey to take the major trophy.
In the semi final the Bolam/Bayley combo won over 19-14 over Sid Morris and Lindsay Willding while the Baker/West team won 25-10 over John Cutler and Jeff Nicholson.
'Bert' Bayley proved his pressure play can hold up against any opposition winning the Bentick Trophy, an event played on handicap, where he received one start against Lindsay Willding.
'Bert' off a handicap of 15 edged out Lindsay (minimum handicap 16) by 31-22.
"I only got away late in the game. Lindsay can play, his record states this. It was a successful weekend but I take it as it is and winning is a bonus," 'Bert' said.
"I'm looking forward to bowls next year, however not as must as retirement. But I've got five years to go," a smiling 'Bert' commented.
In the semi final 'Bert' won 27-17 over Russell Hodge (handicap 10) while Lindsay had success against 'Spro' Asimus (also on a handicap of 16).
Only one major title left to be completed with David Williams, Rob Priest and 'Pooch' Dukes in the final of the Minor Triples awaiting the winner of the semi final between Laurie Spackman, Bob Grant and Sid Morris who have to play Paul Baker, Trevor Currey and Kerry Dunstan.
This final will end a successful season for Forbes bowls which has not gone unnoticed by Sports and Recreation Club president Peter Mackay.
"It has been a testing year that's for sure but we got through all thanks to the club's committee, sub-committees, members and visitors and our staff and volunteers," Peter said.
