Council staff speak at garden meeting

Forbes Garden Club met on June 25 at the Men's Shed for their monthly meeting whereby president Margaret welcomed 32 members.

The guest speakers on the day were David and Kate from the Forbes Shire Council who gave a great coverage in relation to the aspect of gardening, tree planting etc within the Shire.

The toilet block development on Cnr Rankin and Lachlan Streets was discussed whereby a state of the art toilet block has been placed with some play equipment to be added.

There is still much work to be done in street beautification and Templar Street is starting to look good with the Arbours, creepers and Buxus.

A vote of thanks to David and Kate was given by Denise Thurston.

During the meeting a discussion about perhaps having a day trip later in the year with the Committee to meet before the next meeting to share ideas.

Elvy congratulated Denise Thurston on being the proud Mother of a World Champion, her daughter Haylee, who has just recently competed in Kettlebell and became the best in the World.

The Friendship Luncheon is to be held at Young on October 13 at a cost of $60.00 each which includes lunch and an inspection of Clifton Gardens.

Next meeting perhaps it would be good if members could give an idea as to their interest so perhaps we can look to see if it would be worth getting a coach organised.

The raffle on the day was won by Jan Stewart and second place went to Loris Molloy.

Flower of the month by popular vote of members was won by Denise Thurston with an Abraham Darby rose, second to Irene Ford with a beautiful yellow succulent and third to Marie Langfield with a Red Hot Poker.

Please don't forget that your contribution to Flower of the month is an asset to the meeting as looking at the various blooms that people share is worthwhile and interesting.

Please bring along one stem of a flower for entry into flower of the month, with your name and the name of the flower underneath the container.

Our next meeting will once again be at the Mens Shed on Tuesday, July 23, 2pm.

Please try and arrive by 1.45 pm so you can secure a seat before the meeting is due to start.

Please bring a mug for a shared afternoon tea. Congratulations to Claire and Janette who look after the afternoon tea supplies.
