Police took two people into custody after an allegedly stolen vehicle was involved in a police pursuit along the Newell Highway and eventually crashed on the shore of the lake in the middle of Forbes.
Officers chased down two males on foot as they allegedly attempted to flee the scene.
It was just after midday on Monday 5 May when police received reports of a vehicle driving dangerously in the Forbes area.
They sighted the vehicle a short time later and pulled it up near a service station on the Parkes Road, but it's alleged the vehicle rammed the police vehicle and drove away, NSW Police media said in a statement.
Police activated their warning devices in an attempt to stop the vehicle and initiated a pursuit when - it's alleged - the offenders headed north on the Newell Highway.
Forbes Police Chief Inspector Scott Rayner said the pursuit continued for about 20km at various speeds.
Officers were attending from the Parkes end to intercept the vehicle with tyre-deflation devices but it's alleged the driver saw them and turned back toward Forbes.
The chase headed back toward Forbes, with further allegations the passenger in the vehicle threw a bottle at the police vehicle in pursuit.
Entering Forbes, police terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns.
But it wasn't long before they sighted the vehicle again, on Lachlan Street, and allege two males exited the car while it was still running.
The vehicle continued down toward Lake Forbes where it crashed into a tree on the water's edge.
Police pursued two men and foot and arrested them.
The two were taken to Forbes Police Station where they were refused police bail to attend court in Orange on Tuesday.
Checks revealed the vehicle involved was allegedly stolen from Harefield over the weekend.
A 19-year-old man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and destroy/damage property in company greater than $5000.
A 17-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, part of body outside window or door – passenger, and throw thing onto road or into/onto vehicle on road.
