Change in how some voted in Parkes, Forbes

Some voting booths in the towns of Parkes and Forbes saw a considerable shift in first preferences this federal election, particularly away from who people have traditionally voted for in the past.

For Parkes the swing was against the Nationals and Jamie Chaffey, and in Forbes the swing was against Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party candidate Stephen Pope.

The 3320 formal votes cast during pre-poll voting at the Parkes PCYC showed an 11.47 per cent shift away from the Nationals and on election day at the same location from 573 votes, a 17.75 per cent move away.

For Peak Hill man and Family First candidate Maurice Davey, he instead recorded a 5.76 swing in his favour at the PCYC on election day.

Mr Chaffey had an 11.04 per cent swing against him at the Parkes East Public School voting booth where 1033 formal votes were cast, while Libertarian candidate Sally Edwards attracted a just over seven per cent swing.

There was also a 10.6 per cent swing against Mr Chaffey at Parkes High School (446 votes) and 6.66 per cent swing towards Parkes man Mark Carter from Pauline Hanson's One Nation at Middleton Public School (702 votes).

In Alectown where 152 formal votes were cast there was a 15.32 per cent swing against the Nationals and a 17.11 per cent swing to Mr Davey.

Almost 1100 formal votes were cast at Forbes Town Hall on election day, with 15.15 per cent swinging away from Shooters, Fishers and Farmers' Stephen Pope and an almost nine per cent swing towards One Nation's Mark Carter.

There was also a 4.98 per cent swing against Mr Chaffey.

The pre-poll voting at Town Hall also had an 11.58 per cent swing against Mr Pope, from 3213 formal votes.

At Forbes High School (425 votes) Mr Pope had a 22.38 per cent swing against him, 14.32 per cent swing away from him at Forbes Tennis Club (410 votes) and 14.61 per cent swing against at Bedgerabong Public School (110 votes).
