Eagles to welcome visiting teams on the weekend

BY BOB MORGAN

A remarkably busy week in Cowra Championship Bowls last week, starting with a good win to Sue and Steve Sculthorpe 23/17 over Shane Lauritzen and Carol Prosper in a 2nd Round match of Open Pairs.

Onto Saturday and the quarter final matches of the Men’s Fours, which were played in very nice sunshine, Rob Britt defeated Brian Duff 20/15, Shane Beasley defeated Mark Hubber 29/12 and in two very close matches, Joe Burgin defeated Dave Hart 21/17 and Nev Connor def Greg Nicholls 25/21 in a match that required an extra end to find the eventual winner.

Another bright sunny afternoon on Sunday for the remaining seven matches of the Open Pairs, with some mixed results. In hard fought matches, John Pickard and Ken Porter defeated Cobar and Dawn Dye 19/16, Kak Smith and Leila Burns defeated Tom Peadon and Rob Oliver 23/16, Joe Burgin and Nev Connor defeated Shane Beasley and Ian Walker 20/12. In other matches Noel and Sharen Hubber overcame the determined pairing of Dave Hart and John Bischof 24/13, Brayden and Laurie Chew defeated Bruce Oliver and Mick Baldwin 26/13, Joan Bailey and Shane Egan defeated Dave Booth and Trev Ellis 24/8, whilst Dorcas Presnell and Greg Nicholls saw fit to play the mercy card and finish the game early with Sonia and Bob Morgan down 26/9.

Upcoming Matches and Events.

This coming Saturday and Sunday will see a full schedule of bowls on all greens when three Cowra teams compete with seventeen visiting teams in the annual Versatility Fours tournament, so if you would like to enjoy watching some very good bowls come along, the first games are at 10.00am Saturday and 9.30am Sunday.

Our usual Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning mixed social bowls are cancelled this weekend but will be back next weekend.

Nomination sheets are on the Notice Boards for the Regional Men’s and Ladies State Triples, with some matches to be played at Cowra in July.

Nominations are also due for the Men’s and Ladies Club Pairs.

Good bowling everyone until next week.
