Hard work will continue, says reelected Gee

There has been a 54 per cent swing towards Andrew Gee in Eugowra as the Independent retains the seat of Calare in the Federal election.

Thanking supporters and communities on Monday morning, Mr Gee said the work of fighting for the region would now continue.

“I’m extraordinarily grateful to be returned as Federal Member for Calare,” Mr Gee said on social media on Monday morning.

“Representing the region that I love is the honour of my life.

“Today the work of fighting and delivering for Calare continues.”

Mr Gee secured 206 number one votes of 341 formal votes at Eugowra Public School on Saturday.

The Nationals' candidate Sam Farraway had the second highest first preference count with 86 first preferences, representing a 36.6 per cent swing away from the party.

In the Australian Electoral Commission’s two candidate preferred data, Mr Gee held 56.35 per cent and Mr Farraway 43.65 per cent: Mr Farraway conceding the seat late Sunday morning.

“With just over 80 per cent of the primary vote counted, my lead in first preferences is now just over 6,000 votes, and I have fallen behind on preferences. It’s unlikely there are enough remaining votes to regain the lead,” Mr Farraway said in a social media post.

“I want to congratulate Andrew Gee on a result that will see him retain the seat of Calare.

“I also want to sincerely thank my family, my supporters, and everyone who voted for me yesterday.

“So many people gave so much, and while this isn’t the result we hoped for after such a long and hard-fought campaign, I’m incredibly grateful.”

Mr Farraway resigned from his role as a NSW MLC to stand for the Federal seat and said his heart would always be in fighting for the region.

“I look forward to finding new ways to contribute to our community,” he said.

As of Monday, Independent in Kate Hook was third in the race with 15.89 per cent first preference votes, followed by Labor’s Julie Cunningham (10.2 per cent) and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation (7.66 per cent).

The Legalise Cannabis Party was ahead of The Greens on first preferences, Shooters Fishers and Farmers next then Family First and finally Trumpet of Patriots.

Mr Gee thanked all and said he hoped they could now enjoy a well-deserved rest.

The MP thanked his family, staff and friends; volunteers, voters and communities for their support.
