Two wins from two home games isn’t a bad way to start the season
Forbes Magpies defeated Orange CYMS 38-18 at Spooner Oval on Sunday, Jack Smith running in three of those tries in a thrilling effort.
Captain Nick Greenhalgh acknowledged the game was “far from perfect” but was proud of the side.
Again there were errors that saw the Magpies on the defensive, but those defences did hold CYMS out.
“We turned them away early three or four times and we were able to score four quick tries off the back of that,” he said.

“That set the tone early.”
The hosts piled on 22 points before half time and came out to score again early in the second half.
“They did well though, CYMS, they clawed back with a couple of quick tries back to back,” Greenhalgh said.
“I’m pretty proud of the boys they hung in there and got the job done.”
Jack Smith’s three-try effort was a highlight of the game.
“He came into his own yesterday with three tries so he was exciting to watch,” his captain said.
The next two weeks will see the Magpies put to the test as they travel to Dubbo to take on Macquarie, and then on to the as-yet undefeated Wellington.
“Two tough games but it’s going to be good to see where we’re at: we need that test early on,” Greenhalgh said.
