We’re ready to race

RACING

New Forbes trainer Melissa Harrison is looking forward to her first Cup meeting on her home track, nominating eight horses for what promises to be a great day of racing.

The 2025 Forbes Cup is this Sunday, 2 August, and while final acceptances weren’t released at time of preparing for press, all expectations are this year’s fields will continue to build on this showcase meeting.

Melissa, who’s recently relocated her stable and racing team to Forbes with husband Matt and daughter Kyla, has her sights set on the Super Maiden with three nominated for that race.

She’s got nominations spread across the day’s program, but says the one to watch will be Bobby’s Secret, who’s had a recent win at Narrandera and ran second in the Carinda Cup last start.

She reckons he’ll be even happier without the road trip before the racing.

“He should go well – he’ll love his home track,” Melissa said.

The Harrison Racing Team has made the move to Forbes from Orange, seeking some slightly milder starts to their winter mornings, and they’re enjoying their new location.

Along with Forbes Jockey Club, they’re looking forward to a great Cup meeting, the feature being a qualifier for Sydney’s Big Dance.

“It’s so good, it really is,” Melissa said.

“That will attract good fields, strong nominations and good racing.”

This year’s Cup day marks 30 years of support by Bankstown Sports Club and they’ll be bringing plenty of people to town for an extended weekend.

The fun starts with the Calcutta at Club Forbes on Saturday night, book your table online through 123tix.com.au

Sunday will see a full program of racing on the well-prepared Forbes track.

Gates open 11am with racing expected to start about midday, pending the release of the fields.

The first weekend in August is Jockey Celebration Day and Forbes will this year observe the occasion, with a service during the race meeting.

Track-side, there’ll be prizes for fashions on the field and yabby racing for the entertainment of the crowd.
