Two people injured, driver airlifted after crash

Three people were involved in a serious two vehicle crash in Cowra on Monday afternoon, with a 74-year-old man airlifted to Sydney for medical treatment.

Emergency services were called to Darby Falls Road, near the intersection of Camp Road and Jukes Lane, about 3.20pm on September 29.

Police were told a sedan travelling westbound collided with a ute towing a trailer carrying a lawn mower.

The impact caused the ute to roll onto Darby Falls Road and the sedan to crash into a fence along Jukes Lane.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Peter Rowlands said two cars were involved in the crash at the intersection.

The 74-year-old male driver of the sedan was trapped in the wreckage before being freed by paramedics.

He was later flown by helicopter from Cowra Airport to Liverpool Hospital in Sydney.

“The male driver of the second car was subsequently airlifted to Sydney to Liverpool Hospital with chest and abdominal injuries as a result of the accident,” Inspector Rowlands said.

“We were fairly concerned about his condition, so that’s how he was flown by helicopter to Liverpool.”

His passenger, a 68-year-old woman, was also trapped before being rescued and treated at the scene.

She was taken by road to Orange Hospital in a stable condition.

“She was transferred by road to Orange Hospital in a stable condition, but went forward for more observation because they were trapped for quite a while,” Inspector Rowlands said.

The 61-year-old driver of the ute escaped injury and declined medical treatment.

Police from Chifley District are continuing inquiries and have urged anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
