The auctioning off of donated items and services at the Tenterfield Care Centre fundraiser dinner on Saturday night did more than raise over $7000 towards the new wing at Haddington. The final lot of a signed copy of Scott Draper’s book Too good involved spirited bidding, intimidation tactics and – ultimately – one elated winner in the form of Karen Stewart. Mr Draper, guest speaker on the night, braced himself for another assault (of the nicest kind) from Mrs Stewart after a previous encounter when he’d drawn her ticket in one of the lucky door prizes earlier in the evening. READ MORE: Mr Draper was gallant in response, inscribing the book with a thank you to Mrs Stewart and husband Dave, with a thank you for the ‘cuddles’ (presumably meant for Mrs Stewart). She intends to immerse herself in the read while relaxing on a week-long stay at Peppers @ Salt Resort in Kingscliff, secured by Mr Stewart. Not sure if this will be before or after the 30-minute helicopter flight courtesy of Air T&G Helicopters he had picked up earlier. Others were taking home a leather handbag, craft beer, wine, a Linda Nye painting, an Evans Head weekend, a Michael Pieper sculpture, sporting memorabilia, diesel and even a load a crusher dust. Terry Kneipp is set for breakfast for the next 12 months, on the receiving end of a 52-weeks’ supply of extra large eggs donated by Piepers Cheepers.
