Over 200 people signed the petition opposing the sculpture, which was conducted by concerned local residents.
The petition was passed around the Forbes CBD from Thursday, July 17 until Monday, July 21, and organisers said over 90 per cent of businesses, shop owners, employees and customers were willing to sign in opposition of the sculpture.
The life-size bronze sculpture loaned to Forbes by world-renowned sculptors Gillie and Marc features human bodies with dog and rabbit heads in a pyramid formation.
The 700 kilogram sculpture arrived in Forbes last month and is currently being stored at one of Forbes Shire Council’s works depots until it will be erected in Albion Park.
Councillors voted on the Albion Park site as the best location for the sculpture in their June meeting.
Many people who signed the petition liked the idea of a sculpture trail along the Lachlan, but they felt
that it should feature sculptures relevant to Forbes’ history.
Most people were against the Pyramid sculpture saying it was “offensive”, “pornographic”, “not for children” etc.
The results of the survey will be submitted in a letter to council, making them aware of residents’ opinions.
