The iVote system provides accessible voting for people who may otherwise have difficulty casting their vote at a polling place.
This includes electors who are blind, vision impaired, have a disability, have literacy needs, live more than 20km from a polling place or who are outside NSW on election day.
“People have the right to a secret ballot. The iVote system allows a range of people to vote unassisted,” said electoral commissioner, Colin Barry.
“Around 13,000 NSW electors are blind and around 54,000 have low vision. Approximately 330,000 NSW electors with other disabilities and 30,000 electors in remote, rural areas might also benefit from using the iVote system.
“The availability of internet voting will also greatly benefit the thousands of electors who are interstate or overseas on election day,” Mr Barry said.
Registrations close at 1pm on election day, Saturday, March 28. Once registered, electors can vote using the iVote system from 8am Monday, March 16 to 6pm on election day.
