It was a winning recipe for National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday, when kids across the country sat down to read “I got this hat”.
Forbes Library assistant Sharon Barber read the story locally.
Kerrie Bruem was there with two-year-old son Harvey, who loves fortnightly story time at the library.
“His big sister reads him books all the time - she adores it and he loves to sit and listen,” Kerrie said.
“He used to get distracted but now he sits and listens.”
National Simultaneous Storytime is on once a year, designed to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
But you don’t have to wait a whole year, Forbes library has storytime fortnightly and their next one is on Friday June 3 at 10.30am.
If you missed Wednesday and would like to have a look at “I got this hat”, Forbes Library members now have access to an online reading room.
“I got this hat” is on there, as are a number of other books available through Forbes library.
Librarian Bronwyn says that the service is great for young children (although some of the stories are designed for older children so parents should use discretion when choosing).
“If there’s a story they really like, they can borrow the book and have it while they watch the story on the computer or tablet,” she said. “It gives mum a break from some of those stories they want to hear over and over.”
There are stories that incorporate music, stories that embrace varied cultures and plenty for the littlies.
You just need to enter your library card number to watch online.
