Forty educators and parishioners from the diocese are making the pilgrimage, including three teachers from St Laurence’s School in Forbes Liz Horan, Ali Nunn and Peter Nunn, and former local woman and now teacher at St Patrick’s School (Trundle) Casey Maguire.
Since their arrival two weeks ago, the pilgrims have experienced daily the history, prayers and culture of the strong Catholic Faith tradition in Poland, and have met people of Warsaw and pilgrims from other parts of the world.
They have made significant visits to ‘Niepokalanow’ township (City of the Immaculate), celebrated mass in the chapel built by St Maximilliam using his personal chalice, accompanied by pilgrims from America and Africa.
They have spent time in Warsaw, rebuilt after World War II destruction, billeted with families in Mochow village, Catechesis sessions with bishops from around the world, attended the WYD 2016 opening mass in Krakow and time at a Monastery of the Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit, the order of our Bishop Columba.
WYD 2016 is nearing an end, with the final Mass to be celebrated by Pope Francis this weekend. The worldwide encounter with the Pope is celebrated every three years in a different country.
