We received over 200 suggestions all with names relating to Forbes history or a past farm mate.
Keith Mullette, from FAS, Jake Grace from the Agents Association and I narrowed it down to five names: Mallee after a native tree found in the Shire; Mirri meaning dog in Wiradjuri; Jo after the postman Joe Hohnberg, who walked from Sydney to Forbes for Forbes Centenary in 1961; Rosa after the wife of the architect who designed the Post Office James Barnet and Mazie as part of our AMAZING publicity branding.
After a social media blitz and over 190 votes the community has voted for ... Rosa! Thank you to Jemma McLennan for the suggestion.
Following a successful application to the Federal Government last year for $100,000 in funding to upgrade JREC to better accommodate the Yoorana Gunya Family Healing Service, Yoorana Gunya has gained an additional $280,000 in funding through the State Government.
The project will allow Yoorana Gunya to employ one additional doctor and also accept up to two Registrars per term.
Combined with access to additional consultation rooms the project will allow the practice to increase the number of people using their services by 50%.
The upgraded facility will allow Yoorana Gunya to host medical students, registrars and other allied health professionals.
There are a lot of great events coming up in the Shire over the next month with the Mitchell Conservatorium is presenting The String Contingent at the Forbes Town Hall, Forbes Cup on the 6 August and Bedgerabong Show on Saturday 18 August.
Keep an eye out for the Forbes Shire Council tent at both the Bedgerabong and Forbes Shows with staff and Councillors available to answer your questions.
Big congratulations to the Grazing Down the Lachlan team who sold over 800 tickets to make this year’s event a sell out.
