Condobolin Picnic Cup winner Waldo Waldorf upset more fancied runners when winning the 1400 metres Achesons Mitre 10 Open Handicap at Forbes Picnics on Saturday for Canberra trainer Darryl Rolfe.

On A Promise ($1.8 to $1.50 favourite) and Hokkaido ($3) attracted the most attention in the betting ring however Waldo Waldorf had good support from close connections of the Rolfe stable and firmed from $12 to $8.
Gundagai based Belinda Wright, who rode 26 winners as an apprentice in the professional ranks, last rode in July at a TAB meeting at Leeton and first up at the Picnics gave a good display on Waldo Waldorf.
Wilburglen and On A Promise shared the early lead before On A Promise took over and led for home.Eased off the rails from behind the leaders, Waldo Waldorf broke clear in the straight and won by over three lengths from On A Promise (Maddison Wright) and Hokkaido (Ashley Boyd).
Zara Lewis from Inverell had her career first win when aboard the Bryan Dixon, Gilgandra trained Baby Merlin in the 1100 metres Peter Maher Shearing Services & Bryton Wool Open Handicap.
Challenged in the straight, Baby Merlin ($3.70) fought on well to score by a half length from Drummed Out ( Maddison Wright, $1.80 fav) and Red Marauder (Alan. Barton, $7).
Brazilian born jockey Leandro Ribeiro impressed with his winning double on the Connie Greig, Dubbo trained Gossip and Ima Bullet from the Kody Nestor stable at Dubbo.
Gossip ($6) raced by the Michelle Jones Partnership, enjoyed a nice run just off the pace and kicked away to beat Scarpa (Maddison Wright, $1.80 fav.) and Coulpa (Ricky Blewitt, $4) in the 1200 metres Walkers AGnVET Class B Handicap.
Owned by Ian Sullivan from Dubbo, Ima Bullet, ($2.20 equal fav.) followed a last start win at Gilgandra when sprinting along the rails to overwhelm Poetic Harmony (Maddison Wright, $2.20 equal fav.) and Dizzy Dylan (Zara Lewis, $15) in the 1400 metres BWR Accountants Class B Handicap.
Although better suited over a longer distance, Occasional (Maddison Wright, $1.40 fav.) trained at Nyngan by Brett Robb for John Smith from Gilgandra, raced near the lead in the 1100 metres Shead & Nicholson Maiden Plate and was a three lengths winner from Combogolong (Ashley Boyd, $2.50) and He's Exciting (Ricky Blewitt, $3.80).
Due to the corona virus restrictions, the Forbes Jockey Club Picnic Meeting had an attendance limit of 500 by ticket only for the general public.
The tickets were sold out by midweek.
