RDA riders back on a horse as Sahara Park reopens

The reopening of Sahara Park Riding School has enabled RDA Forbes to continue hiring their facilities and get the riders back accessing life changing therapy.

“We are very grateful to Leanne Smith at Sahara Park for her continued support of this important community service,” said Prue Dawson, RDA Forbes committee secretary.

“The Forbes community has been so supportive of RDA and with the reopening of Sahara Park it has meant that our committee has not needed to find new facilities and our riders can get back to riding sooner.”

The primary objective of Riding for the Disabled Association (NSW) is to provide most people with a disability, the opportunity to ride and enjoy all the activities connected with horse riding. 

Horse riding is a unique form of exercise and rehabilitation.

The complex movement of the horse helps to improve coordination, balance, muscular development and fitness.

Horse riding and horse related activities assist greatly and often dramatically in the development and restoration of personal confidence, self esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

For people with challenging behavior for example, horses offer a powerful medium for restoring a sense of personal control, which significantly improves behavior towards family teachers and friends.

Riders and volunteers will recommence in early June.

Volunteers find some experience with horses helpful and will also require a working with children check.

If you need to complete one of these checks, it is available free to volunteers through Roads and Maritime Service offices.
