The Northern Territory award recognises a final year apprentice who has been outstanding in all aspects of their trade.
Kacie moved to the Northern Territory several years ago and is a fabricator and welder with Darwin based business Jakes Steel and Welding.
Kacie said she initially wanted to become a diesel mechanic, before being offered a job with Jakes.
“After two months of labour work, they offered me an apprenticeship,” she said.
Kacie said her work as a fabricator and welder has had challenging moments for her, but she wouldn’t change it as she loves her job.
Kacie was nominated for the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year by one of her teachers from the Charles Darwin University.
“It’s is nice to know people have seen the effort that you’ve put in,” she said.
Kacie said she wants to get into welding inspecting some time in the future, and that her training has opened up many opportunities.
