Pianist mesmorises crowd

Mr de Borah played scores from Chopin, Schubert and Prokofiev and was asked for two encores from the audience of around 70 people.

Operations manager for the Mitchell Conservatorium Jan Facey said Mr de Borah was mesmerising.

“Everyone just loved it,” she said. 

“You could hear a pin drop, everyone was that enthralled.

“I watched the faces of the people who attended as they left and they had the biggest smiles.”

Mr de Borah is touring the central west and as well as performing is also teaching master classes to piano students in the region. 

Yesterday, five piano students received hour long tutorials from Mr de Borah including Mitchell Conservatorium piano teacher Lyndal Isbester.   

Ms Isbester said his attention to detail was astounding.

“He was very detailed and picked up on a lot of different things,” she said. 

“As a teacher, I’m learning a lot and seeing things that I should pick up on.”

This is the third time Mr de Borah has travelled to Forbes and he said he enjoys sharing his knowledge of music.  

“I had the fortune of studying in St Petersburg and London with some of the great teachers so it’s nice to share that knowledge,” he said.

Mr de Borah has won the Australian National Piano Award, was a major prize winner in the 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition and many other international competitions. 

He now divides his time living between Melbourne and London.
