Drums mustered for recycling

With still one more collection day on tomorrow, July 25, chairman of the Forbes Urban Landcare group Ron Hurley is hoping to reach 1000 drums. 

“Congratulations to the farmers who have deposited drums with us over the last four weeks,” Mr Hurley said. “We still have the collection day on Friday to go so we may get to 1000 for the full month.”

The drum collection is run by Forbes Urban Landcare and for each drum deposited, the group receive 25 cents from drumMuster which Mr Hurley says is reinvested into local projects. 

“All money raised by Forbes Urban Landcare through drumMUSTER is used on Landcare projects such as the trees we are going to plant along Bogan Gate Road near York Street and the assistance to Forbes North Primary School kitchen garden,” Mr Hurley said. 

Mr Hurley said if anyone wishes to dispose of their drums, they can be deposited at the Twin City Recycling depot in Sam Street.  

“Drums can be left at the depot any other day during the week,” Mr Hurley said. 

“However we do need to credit whoever deposits them and check their cleanliness so please [leave] a name and contact number with the drums.

“Also you need to arrange a time to drop off drums by phoning the Forbes Services Club, we get a lot of assistance by the Forbes Services Club and we couldn’t do it without their help.”

Mr Hurley also made the point that the Forbes Urban Landcare Group is in need of volunteers.

“We are really in desperate need of new volunteers, we are only a small group and we do need some numbers,” he said.
