GALLERY: Food Revolution draws crowds back

The crowd, and their enthusiasm, grew at this year’s Forbes Food Revolution Day - the second annual event - which was held on Saturday.

Organisers of the day conservatively estimated that about 1500 people attended Food Revolution Day activities in Templar Street, which included a variety of farmers market stalls, gardening and butchering demonstrations, food tasting and plenty of kids activities.

“I’m very pleased with it, it went very well,” Forbes Food Revolution Day ambassador Lucy Pearce said. “[The day] had a great reception from the community...the people who were there were very keen and very interested.”

Last year about 900 people came along to see what the event was all about and this year, Mrs Pearce said was much bigger judging by the amount of people watching the demonstrations that were held throughout the morning.

“We doubled the seats we had out this year ... we had 50 seats out and for most of the demonstrations the seats were full and there were people standing up,” she said. 

“The most popular gardening demonstration was how to plant citrus trees in pots - it ran overtime there were so many people with questions. 

“The butchering demonstration with the sausage-making was also popular.”

The multicultural food tasting was once again a crowd-pleaser and Mrs Pearce said the addition of the Scottish food was a hit.

All stallholders were very pleased with the day, with many selling out of all their produce by the end of the day.

“They all had a good day and the surrounding businesses were also very happy - it’s good for everyone,” Mrs Pearce said.

Mrs Pearce said it’s time to start planning for next year.
