A surprised Ms Shine was back among the kids on Monday and reflecting on why she does what she does.
She says she loves coming to work and feeling that the preschool is making a difference in the Forbes community.
“The biggest thank you to our beautiful community,” she said.
“There are so many great people I need to thank, including the educators and families of Forbes Pre School. They make my job so easy and rewarding.
“It’s amazing how far we have come in a few short years. It’s nice to be rewarded for all our hard work.”
The Business Leader award recognises the positive contribution made to business by business people and professionals.
The award recognises those who demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, strategic business direction and innovative ideas, whilst providing inspiration to a new generation of upcoming business leaders. Individuals entering into this category can be self-employed or employed by a business.
Since becoming director of Forbes Preschool, Ms Shine has seen the construction of and relocation into a much-expanded new facility.
She has lobbied for about $1.5 million in funding to ensure all children in the community have access to affordable early childhood education.
She has seen increased enrolments and partnerships within the community.
This July the Pre School will host its first major conference, with international speaker Anthony Semann.
“We’re really excited to get him to the country,” Ms Shine said. “We wanted to get the other preschool and early childhood centres in here to learn, network and have a great time.”
Workshop presenters will include a speech therapist, occupational therapist, Netwaste ambassador, Aboriginal cultural philosopher and relaxation experts.
Other Forbes businesses to make the finals of the regional business awards were: Samantha Leonard, Forbes Smash; H E Silos Forbes; News on Rankin and Central West Glazing.
