Twenty-two community and volunteer groups in the Forbes Shire will benefit from $102,400 in funding thanks to the Department of Social Services Volunteer Grants Program.

Federal Member for Riverina and Minister for Small Business Michael McCormack welcomed the funding as an investment in volunteers and small community organisations who deliver vital support services and assistance to the young, the elderly and so many of our most vulnerable citizens.
“The grants provided range from $1,000 to $5,000 and enable local organisations to better support their volunteers by purchasing much-needed equipment, training and transport,” Mr McCormack said.
Margot Rubie and Erin McCann from Red Bend Junior Rugby League said their $5000 grant would be put towards an electronic scoring board for the club’s home games.
Ann Nicholson and Michael Fisher from Calarie Hall, which hosts functions and fundraisers, will purchase a heating and cooling system with their $5000.
“It is very well needed and will be a lot more comfortable,” Ann said.
“There is nothing worse than heat and flies.”
Bedgerabong War Memorial Union Church’s Dorothy Noakes will put their grant towards heating and cooling too.
“It is needed, especially on Christmas Eve,” she said.
“I was very excited on Sunday when Andrew [Rawsthorne] told me we received the grant.”
Five-thousand dollars was also granted to community radio station 2LVR.
Treasurer Kerry Stevenson said the announcers and volunteers will use it for petrol costs getting to and from the station.
“They all appreciate it, particularly the ones that come from Parkes,” he said.
“We are very appreciative of all the effort they put in.”
Trestle tables, an ice machine and seating for the new canteen area will be purchased with $5000 granted to Forbes High School.
Forbes North will receive a sprinkler system and canteen air conditioner with their money.
At Bedgerabong Public School, P and C Secretary Melissa Brown said the committee had decided to put their $2400 towards new catering equipment including a barbecue and ice box.
“Congratulations to all groups who will receive funding,” Mr McCormack said.
