There will be plenty of activity on Lake Forbes in coming weeks, with Roads and Maritime Services assessing ground conditions for the replacement of the historic Camp Street Bridge.

Work will involve drilling bore holes into Lake Forbes from a barge and from the pedestrian bridge, which will be closed.
The work, expected to take the next three weeks, is part of a $500,000 planning process to replace the bridge, built in 1927.
RMS released a virtual “flyover” of the concept for the new bridge online two weeks ago.

“The Camp Street Bridge was built in 1927 and is narrow, in poor condition and nearing the end of its life,” the website says.
“A new bridge is needed to meet current design standards and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians into the future.
“A new bridge across Lake Forbes will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and reduce future maintenance requirements.
“The project involves building a new, wider bridge across Lake Forbes with wider travel lanes and pedestrian/cyclist paths.”
The RMS plans to incorporate the lamp posts from the existing bridge into the design to complement the town's heritage aesthetics.
The project team is in Forbes this week to discuss the project with community members.
Visit them between 4pm and 7pm at Forbes Shire Council on Thursday or outside Bernardi’s supermarket between 9.30am and midday Saturday.
Down at Lake Forbes, work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.
There is a reduced speed limit in place on Camp Street Bridge to allow pedestrians to use the footpaths on the bridge.
The footbridge will be open to pedestrians on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
The RMS said every effort would be made to reduce the noise impact, and thanked motorists and pedestrians for their patience.
