Dancing Queens around the country are getting ready to don their platform heels and sequins, knowing The Winner Takes It All at the Trundle ABBA Festival – Australia’s only and original ABBA festival, which will be revelling in a brand new village vibe for 2018.
Rather than being held in several different locations in Trundle as per previous years, the 2018 festival will be held solely at Berryman Oval – creating a social village atmosphere.
The iconic event – held on the first Saturday in May each year – is gearing up for a bigger-than-ever 2018 experience, following last year’s announcement that Destination NSW will fund $20,000 into the event to ensure it continues into the future.
“The Trundle ABBA Festival has grown significantly,” said Kelly Hendry, Destination Development Manager for the Parkes Shire Council.
“So the staging of the event in one location will ensure that visitors don’t miss any of the action, with activities concentrated at Berryman Oval. It will also bring improvements to the event servicing, as infrastructure won’t need to be duplicated in various locations.”
For Trundle Hotel publican Dannielle Ward, the new-look festival is no surprise.
“The ABBA committee has always been quite innovative and dynamic with each festival; it has evolved every year and this coming year is no exception. I think they really listened to what the people wanted and have accommodated,” she said.
Dannielle herself will be playing a significant role in this years’ festival, with the Trundle Hotel setting up a bar at Berryman Oval to service attendees. The bar will boast a wine bar, and possibly a special beverage in honour of ABBA – stay tuned!
The 105-year-old Trundle Hotel plays a key role in the community of Trundle, with the Ward family having purchased the hotel in 2009. Since then, improvements to the property have been significant and ongoing.
From a new dining room and fully functioning commercial kitchen operation, cool room upgrades, air-conditioning, carpet and “what feels like billions” of litres of paint, the hotel is a work-in-progress.
Perhaps most significant is the impressive 90-metre heritage verandah, which has just received a $100,000 NSW state government grant to complete restoration work.
“It is a unique event that gives the people of Trundle the opportunity to not only show off our thriving community but to also attend and participate in the festival.”
