Paddles for Staff
North Parkes staff had an experience with a difference last Thursday when organiser Stacey Kelly arranged a dragon boat paddle for seventeen of her staff. Club President, Bill Thomas, was happy to skipper the boat as sweep; while Bev Williams took on the important role of stroke, the pace-setter; and Beth Thomas drummed and coached the team of novices. They paddled amazingly well for first-timers and had a huge amount of fun.

Veterans Golf
It has been reported that Greg Webb will be one of the big movers in golf in Forbes during 2018 and that was emphasised on Thursday when the big right hander collected first in the weekly Forbes/Parkes veterans 12 hole competition. Despite the heat 37 played the Parkes course (including two visitors) with Greg returning a solid 28 points to win on a count-back from Parkes representative Ian Phipps.
Casea Belley (Parkes) did not have his best to collect the Encouragement Award with 11 points. However, the No 1 Dragon supporter will improve once the winter months set in. In the Mick Miller Shield where the best six scored from each club count Parkes (18 players) ran out winners with 154 points to Forbes' (17 players) 148.
Nearest the pins, fourth A grade Ian Phipps (P), B grade Graham Cooke (P), 11th A grade Phil Bishop (P), B grade Michael Lynch (P). Ball sweep to 23 points - 27 points Jim Moloy (F), 26 Bob Barter (P), Phil Bishop (P), 25 Graham Cooks (P), Dale Stait (P), 24 Ken Sanderson (F), Allan Afflick (P), Sunna Bell (P), 23 Barry Parker (F), Barry Shine (F), Alf Davies (F), Geoff Coles (F), Michael Lynch (P), Chris Goodie (P), John Pearce (P), Tony Delmanigo (P), John Davies (P).
Thursday's play will be in Parkes over 18 holes with nominations from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start in the monthly Lachlan Valley competition. Last Tuesday's mid-week competition was again well patronised where David Williams put his handicap to good use in recording a winning score of 32 points for the 12 hole competition. David was quick to tell all in 'ear shot' that the win was the foundation he was looking forward before a group of Forbes representatives hit the courses in the south island of New Zealand in the next couple of months. As usual Barry Parker was in form to be runner-up with 31 points. All welcome for Tuesday golf of 12 holes. Ball toss today at 9am for playing partners.
Croquet
A happy New Year to all our club members. We were happy to welcome Bob and Karen Bradley and their son Magnus who were visiting from Melbourne and keen to have a taste of croquet. Summer games start at 8:30am in a small effort to beat the heat. Tuesday was quite hot, however a large contingent of member attended the game and Alec Todd and Bruce Field top scored with three wins each followed closely by an awesome 14 runners up with two games each.
Saturday was a perfect day with lower temperatures and heavy cloud cover with Harley Stewart being the only member who defeat all comers with three wins and nine runners up with two wins. A cracking start to the season for all. It’s a tricky job keeping track of the scores, especially when member fail to write the results after every game. This impacts greatly on the end of year scores and may not reflect the actual winners for the year. Please ensure that your scores are written up.
