Committee president Nathan Clarke said conditions were good for racing with a top of 34 degrees.
Volunteer committee members worked hard through hot and dry conditions to prepare the picturesque riverside race course for the big day, which attracts thousands to the rural community year after year.
“People commented on how impressed they were with the grounds and gardens,” Mr Clarke said.
Jockeys also commented on the condition of the track.
While 2018 didn’t see the biggest crowd through the gate, numbers were up from last year (postponed due to extreme heat) and Mr Clarke hopes the numbers will continue to climb again.
“We encourage everyone to come back next year and hope to see them again for another great day at Bedgerabong,” Mr Cooke said.
Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb and jockey Maddison Wright were the stars of the six-race meeting, taking out the Bedgerabong Cup for the second year in a row with four-year-old mare Lulu’s Destiny.
Last year Security Code, trained by Robb and ridden by Wright, won both the Bedgerabong Picnic Cup and the inaugural $50,000 Picnic Championship Final at Dubbo. Lulu’s Destiny could repeat that feat in 2018.
The off-track highlight was quite possibly the Fashions on the Field, always hotly contested.
