Not a great lot of joy for our No 4 pennant teams at the weekend as they went down 65-51 to Gulgong at Mudgee. The teams did not get off to a quick start, as you need too, but half way through the game they levelled the scores and were only four shots behind with three ends to play. Unfortunately Gulgong were too good and picked up the shots to win.

Bad luck but you did well to get to the Zone play-offs.
We had the Zone No 6 play-offs here over the weekend. The weather God was good to us and with 96 bowlers with wives and supporters it was a good weekend for the Club. All the games were played in the right spirit and the supporters and spectators witnessed some outstanding bowls. All the games were very close with Blayney defeating a strong Cowra team in the last game of section 1, picking up 9 points to 1 which put them 1 point ahead of Cowra and a place in the final.
In the last game of section 2 Trangie played Condobolin and although they were defeated the two points they received were enough to put them into the final against Blayney. The final was very close until the final stages when Blayney ran out of puff and Trangie pulled ahead to win 66-56, earning the right to represent the Zone at the State finals.
There were two club games played last week. In the Major Singles Brian Asimus proved too good and defeated Peter MacKay game to 14. In Minor Pairs Ray Dunstan and Allan Phillips out classed Rob Priest and Peter MacKay, winning the game 25-10. Ray and Alan were too consistent with Rob and Peter marking time on four on four ends, six for five ends and eight for six ends.
With regards to club championships a reminder that the first round of the Minor Pairs must be completed by May 12, the next round of the Major Singles by May 19 and the first round of the Major Fours by May 20.
Last Thursday afternoon Saw John Cutler and Don Craft come out the winners with a 25-12 defeat of Ernie Egan and Tony Bratton. Runners up were Merv Langfield, John Kennedy and Geoff Williams after defeating Bob Grant, Laurie Crouch and Brian Asimus 19-8. In the other games Viv Russell and Glen Kearney outclassed Christian West and Scott Andrews 30-17 and in the last game a visitor, A Affleck and Scott McKellar defeated Grant Lambert and Alan Phillips 23-18. The jackpot was won by the triples game so they also went home as winners.
Considering the No 4’s were away and the No 6 one games being played there was a good roll-up on Sunday morning. The good bowlers with resting touchers were John Baass and John Bentick. Winners on the morning were Billy Hodge, N Davis (a visitor) and Laurie Crouch who defeated Col Breaden, G Davis (a visitor) and Rod Howarth 14-5. The loosing rink went to Laurence Hodge and Alan Smith who were defeated 11-19 by Paul Baker and Bob McGinty. In the other games Geoff Brown and John Bentick had a close 16-15 win over Paul Hodge and John ‘Gunna’ Williams and in the last game John Baass and Russell Hodge had a 19-16 win against John Cutler and Peter Tisdell.
Continuing with Sunday morning bowls, Laurie Crouch won the April Bakehouse award and this Sunday will see the start of a new sponsors event, the Forbes Caravan and Cabins Trophy.
