The game was between Viv Russell and Bert Bayley playing Brian Asimus and Scott Andrews. Brian and Scott picked up a seven on the first end and at the seventh end they were leading 13-2. Viv and Bert must have changed gears as they then went on to pick up 20 shots in the next nine ends to the opposition’s four, making it 22-17 their way. Viv and Bert went on to become the new Major Pairs champions, winning the game 25-21. Congratulations, the rest of us can get a bit of practice in for next year.
There were a number of Minor Pairs games played. Cliff Nelson and John Stringer proved too strong for Gunna and Christian West running out winners 22-14. Gunna and Christian were in the game until the eleventh end when the opposition showed their strength winning eight of the last ten ends.
Scott McKellar and Tony Bratton have played together many times but Paul Baker and Daniel Tisdell made them work hard. Paul and Daniel had the lead 17-14 at the eighteenth end but the dropped a seven on the next end, which doesn’t help and Scott and Tony pounced and won the game 27-17.
Bill Adams and Grant Lambert showed that they could be a force in the minor pairs with a strong 23-13 win against Bob Grant and Wayne Burton.
Just a reminder that the next round of the Major Singles is set down for completion by tomorrow and the Major Fours on Sunday. Due to some members travelling to Grenfell for the Zone Pairs on the weekend there are some games on this afternoon.
There was another good rollup in perfect conditions last Wednesday afternoon. Barry Shine and Glen Kearney had a good final result against Bill O’Connell and Sid Morris. Trevor Currey and Laurie Crouch finished just ahead of Rad Stevens and Ray Dunstan, while Rob Priest played for both sides trying to even the score. Barry Wright and Alf Davies had a good game and ended in front of Danny Christey and Kerry Dunstan. Fred Vogelsang and Tony Bratton ended up just two points ahead of Denis Byrnes and Geoff Williams. Then Eddie Gould and Christian West defeated Jim Maloy and new returning player Peter Hocking.
Well done gents keep bringing new players to Wednesday at one.
The weather on Thursday afternoon kept most players in doors but there were some hardy souls who turned out to play. John Cutler and Alan Phillips had a comfortable 24-12 win over Bob Grant and Gunna Williams. In the only other game Peter MacKay and Tony Bratton combined with a visitor from Streaky Bay in SA, Lee McCarten, to run out very convincing winners, 32-1 over Merv Langfield, Grant Lambert/Wayne Moon and Lyall Strudwick.
The first round of the Forbes Caravan & Cabins Trophy was played last Sunday morning. The winners on the morning were Loris Stewart and Scott McKellar who defeated Fred Vogelsang and Tony Bratton 21-12. Fred and Tony were also the losing rink.
John Ashcroft and Bob McGinty had a 24-4 win over Paul Baker and Rod Howarth. Billy Hodge and John Bentick defeated Lara Lea and Laurence Hodge 18-12. James and Mellissa defeated Leah and Dina 22-9. April and Julie had a 14-9 win over Lucy and Trish. Peter Greenhalgh and Glen Kearney had a 13-10 win against John Cutler and Alan Phillips. In the last game and I hope I get the names right, Lex, Chook, Wayne and G Williams with a 17-9 win against Tool, GW, G McKenzie and G Greenhalgh.
Resting touchers went to Billy Hodge and Paul Baker and the winner of the first round was Billy Hodge and the looser was Fred Vogelsang.
