The Wellness Hub won the Spotless Keeping People Healthy Award, which recognises projects that raise awarness of healthy choices, prevent ill health and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the community.
The Wellness Hub opened in 2016 after Forbes High School observed an increase in complex student needs impacting the wellbeing of their students, the award citation explains.
The Hub – as its name suggests – brings a whole range of health and community services into the school to make them accessible to students and their families.
The Hub is always open with the school’s counselors, youth worker and Aboriginal Education Officers based there.
They helped on 207 occasions in their first 12 months.
“This is an excellent example of how a locally-led project can improve health outcomes for youth and families,” the award citation reads.
