Charles Alder said the auction got fundraising for the project off to a great start, with some 250 people gathered in the historic SYLO building.
“It was a great turn out and people were interested in what was being done for their community,” Mr Alder said.
Rural Aid and local business K and H Interiors are rallying support to carry out repairs and renovations on local properties hit hard by drought, just two seasons after so many were affected by flood.
Early estimates are that more than $25,000 was raised at Friday’s auction, with some $60,000 worth of donated goods to be put towards the farm rescues.
K and H Interiors’ Kim Lowe expressed huge thanks to the many businesses and individuals who donated, and to all those who supported the auction so well.
Volunteer support for the effort has been overwhelming and registrations for that type of assistance are being closed off.
Mr Alder said 450 people had already signed up as volunteers to lend their skills when Farm Rescue comes to Forbes in October.
Farm Rescue recipients will be chosen by the end of this week, so anyone wishing to register or nominate needs to go online to farmrescue.com.au urgently.
Properties will be assessed by a builder and recipients will be chosen by Rural Aid Farm Rescue.
Volunteers include handymen, plumbers, builders, electricians, mechanics, painters, fencers, diesel mechanics and carpenters.
Their aim is to help out with those things that have to take a back seat in the current conditions.
Those could be jobs around the house, in the machinery shed or on the property. The idea is simply to relieve whatever stresses they can.
You can still register as a sponsor or supplier online.
Nation-wide, Rural Aid is accepting donations towards fodder, fuel and necessities through buyabale.com.au
Farmers seeking assistance with feed can also register online.
