Australia’s leading job search company, Seek.com.au, after collating the figures for all the jobs advertised in the state this year, has found that the jobs advertised in the sports and recreation sector were the highest paying in what it calls the “Dubbo and Central NSW” region.
The Dubbo and Central NSW region includes the Dubbo, Nyngan, Parkes and Forbes areas.
This average pay package was also the highest among all the other NSW regions in the sports and recreation sector.
Group 11 Rugby League chairman Derrick Hoe was sceptical about the figures for the sports and recreation sector, saying they “were not right”.
Sydney was at a distant fourth for the sports and recreation sector as the average salary for all the advertised jobs was $67,532 per annum.
This could be because Sydney may have advertised more low paying jobs, bringing down the overall average compensation.
Seek.com.au didn’t provide the number of jobs advertised in each region.
As per its data, it was the Wagga Wagga and Riverina region that saw the second highest average salary for sports and recreation at $92,500 per year.
The mining, resources and energy sector advertised the second highest average salary in the Dubbo and Central region, but that sector was still the highest across all the regions.
A mining job fetched $126,909 a year in the region.
The Newcastle, Maitland and Hunter region offered the second best salary package at $124,531 per year in the mining sector.

“We expect to see salaries for roles in the mining, resources and energy sector continue to strengthen in the coming years, boosting salary growth in mining-dependent regions such as Western NSW,” Seek ANZ managing director Kendra Banks said.
The human resources and consulting sector was at the third position in the Dubbo and Central region and offered an average salary of $117,500 a year.
It was followed by the consulting and strategy sector with a pay package of $91,250 and the information and communication technology sector which offered an average salary of $91,111 per annum.
