Then there was Cliffy Nelson and Alf Davies who returned with a 27:10 victory over John Gorton and Tony Bratton. Great weekend: Last Saturday Forbes hosted a lively busload of bowlers from Crookwell and Goulburn. They arrived for a tasty roast lunch and a mini carnival of mixed pairs. Unfortunately for the visitors the semi-finalists were all Forbes teams with our Bert Bayley and Deanna Williams finishing just in front and taking out the title in windy and dusty conditions. Our visitors stayed on for dinner at the club.
On Sunday morning we were overwhelmed with the crowd. Joining us was another busload of busy bowlers from Belrose. Our Monty, Bruce and Greg did a fine job of slotting the teams into the draw. We played three bowl triples. It was wonderful to see so many players out enjoying the sunshine and camaraderie.
Of our locals we had five wins from six teams, but all agreed bowls was the winner.
Minor triples: On Saturday morning in the minor triples Rob Priest, John Gorton and Peter Mackay had a 30:19 win from Paul Baker, Cliff Nelson and Scott McKellar.
Thursday afternoon: Last Thursday Merv Langfield, Bobby Grant and Darryl Griffiths scored a 23:15 win from Harvey Elliott, Grant Lambert and Tony Bratton. Christian West and Lyall Strudwick had a little 27:21 win from Cliff Nelson and Viv Russell. Then Clive Herbert and Al Phillips picked up a 19:10 from John Cutler and Billy Adams. See you again next Thursday Arvo.
Annual general meeting: As you know the club AGM is Sunday 21st October at 10am. This will be followed immediately by the AGM of the Men’s committee. Members should really think about who they want to run the club and the bowls for the next year or so. We need a strong core of doers to carry us through the difficult times ahead.
Club mixed pairs: Entries for the club mixed pairs are open but not for much longer. They close on next Thursday 27th September. Games start on 13th October.
Minors format: At the last meeting of FMBC it was agreed that next year some changes be made to the Minor Championship events. Firstly Social members will be able to nominate and play in mufti. If they make it to the finals they must become a full member and play in club uniform. This system works well in places like Lake Cargelligo where they have more full members than Forbes and have a high percentage of younger players. Full membership is $110 for the year and entitles players to enter Championships, Pennants and zone events.
