Central West start for junior rugby players

Local players have been selected to join the Central West under 12s, the under 15s, the under 16s and the under 18s teams. 

Nadine Moxey from Forbes Junior Rugby said the club is very proud and excited to have its players recognised for their talent and chosen to play rugby at a representative level.

Under 12s 

Oliver Walker, Charlie Francis and William Moxey (pictured middle left) have been selected to play in the Central West under 12s team. 

Oliver said he prefers playing in the second row, William's preferred position on the field is hooker and Charlie's preferred position is as a five eighth.

All three of the players agreed the selection period and training to get into the Central West was harder than they were used to, particularly because of the heat in January.

Under 14s and 15s

Clinton Hooper, Angus Turner, Charlie Philipzen, Harrison Corke were selected to play in the Central West's under 15s squad, while Malaki Falau was selected to play in the under 14s squad.

Angus Turner said it was very great to get selected for the Central West and that it required a lot of hard work.

Angus plays in the forwards as the breakaway, he's excited for the season and new experiences that being on the team will bring him.

Under 16s

Tom Mattiske, Brady Nicholls, Matthew Kennedy and Josh Higgins (pictured top left) were among the Forbes players who are on the Central West's under 16s squad.

Tom Mattiske said he thinks it may be a bit of a challenge playing at the representative level, but the extra training will be good for his fitness. 

Matt Kennedy is following in his older brother's footsteps - he tried out a few years ago.

The training was hard to begin with and a different standard, Matt said, but it came easier the more he worked at it.

Josh Higgins said he jumped on board to try out for the Central West to give it a go and get some more experience.

Under 18s

Sam Nixon, who has been playing union for the last three years, said he tried out for the Central West's under 18s for a new experience.

Sam came over to union from rugby league and said this helped improve his fitness and playing ability.
