Catholic Healthcare made the announcement last Thursday, when the organisation's executive were in town to mark the uniting of JRV with Mater Aged Care.

David Maher, Managing Director of Catholic Healthcare, said construction of the village would start in June with a view to completion in June 2020.

"We are building 19 new free-standing villas," Mr Maher announced at the gathering.

"As an organisation we continue to grow our services for seniors and the community as demand for aged care and retirement living increases."

Among the first to welcome the announcement were representatives of the now-disbanded Forbes Jemalong Aged People's Association, which was formed in the 1970s to raise funds for an aged care facility (JRV).

After decades of service, the organisation formally disbanded last year and handed its assets to Forbes Shire Council for the community, including funds to be used to build a community centre in the planned retirement living village.

"We are delighted to be working with Catholic Healthcare and our contribution of $1.25 million will help foster a sense of community," Cr Graeme Miller, former Deputy Chair of the Forbes Jemalong Aged Peoples Association, said.

The organisation's last-serving chairperson Alister Lockhart also described the announcement as great news and said it was very positive to see construction fencing already up around the planned site.

On bahalf of Catholic Healthcare last Thursday, Mr Maher acknowledged the work of the Association.

"We thank the Forbes Jemalong Aged People's Association for their generous donation towards our development," he said.

"These local organisations are amazing.

"Through their own blood, sweat and tears they come up with an idea and make it happen, it's a tremendous legacy."
