Competition bowls: Russell Hodge and Glen Kearney played Brian Asimus and Scott Andrews in the final of the major pairs. The game was very close throughout the game. Brian and Scott led 4-nil after two ends but by the 14th end the scores were 14-all. Russell and Glen hit the front by one shot on the 18th end, but lost a three on the very next end to be down 19 to 17. With one shot going to each side on the last two ends, the final score was 20 to 18 in favour of Brian and Scott. Well done to both teams on a great final.

Good see a large number of competition singles games being played this week. In the minor singles games, the scores are as follows: Bob Grant beat Kerry Dunstan 31 to 10, Greg Ward beat Scott McKellar 31 to 18 and in a very close game, Fred Voglesang beat Dennis Byrnes 31 to 26.
In major singles games, Peter McKay beat John Williams 31 to 21, John Kennedy beat Bill O'Connell 31 to 16; Grant Lambert beat Lyall Strudwick 31 to 8; Brain Asimus beat Ian Simmonds 32 to 10; Lawrence Jackson beat Scott McKellar 31 to 24 (good to see you playing Jacko).
In the battle of the titans, Shane Sharman beat Greg Gunn 31 to 24. Shane was not so lucky in the next game, going down to Tony Bratton 31 to 27. Good to see a couple of Wednesday bowlers in Bill O'Connell, Kerry Dunstan and Dennis Byrnes having their first competition game and performing very well. Those bowlers who have not played their singles game, make sure your games are played by the due date.
Sunday morning: There were 18 bowlers turn up last Sunday to have a game. Pam Stevens and Alan Smith went down to Pat Hodson and Robert Bayley , Paul Baker and Daryl Griffiths were too good for Paul Hodge and Tony Bratton, John Ashcroft and John Kennedy beat J Cotter and Fred Voglesang, and in a game of triples, P Morrison, Alan Affleck and Alan Hilder beat L Stewart, D Hodson and P Moran. Good to see our Parkes visitor in Alan, still likes travelling to Forbes to play bowls.
Good to see our bowls' president, Geoff Williams back from the Australian Police Bowls Championship. The championship were held in Brusselton Western Australia over nine days. Geoff was part of the NSW Police side that won the majority of trophies on offer. Geoff was part of the NSW fours side team which beat every other state, and won the Pairs Plate with his partner Barry Smith from East Maitland Club. Barry and Geoff had to win five games to make the final, and went in as underdogs against two No 1 pennant players from Perth. Geoff and Barry were never headed in the final with the final score being 16 to 13. Geoff said that he enjoyed playing with Barry (who has only been playing bowls for 6 years). Geoff said that Barry spent 20 years in the homicide squad and had a reputation of being one of the best detectives in that squad. The championship will be held in Tuncurry NSW next year, and Geoff said it would be nice to be picked again the NSW side.
Wednesday bowls: Fearless Fred Vogalsang is playing his best bowls for some time recording a win over Denny Byrnes (the Bowlie's most improved) in the minor singles recently while last week he was on the kitty to lead for Lyell Strudwick in recording a thumping 23-5 win over John Baass and Grant Lambert.
In a close one Kerry Dunstan and Rob Priest defeated Denny Byrnes and Ray Dunstan 19-18 over 22 ends. Kerry and Rob had to finish strong being behind 13-9 at 'oranges'.
Noel Jolliffe continues to impress to lead for Tony Bratton winning 20-17 over Peter Urwin and Trevor Curry who is looking to the 'hot' of the northern state as winter is about to set in. It was close with only shot difference at nine ends in a 18 end game.
In another close game Col McKay and Ron Thurlow scraped home 15-14 over Jim Moloy and Ian Walsh over 16 ends. Ron led 10-5 at half way before Jim and Ian piled on the points.
Sid Morris did all asked of him to led for Alf Davies in recording a comfortable 20-9 win over John Ashcroft and Scott McKellar over 18 ends with the score 11-4 at the half way mark. Bill Looney and Laurie Crouch were another never in doubt winning 19-8 over Bill O'Connell and Don Craft, also over 18 ends with the score 11-3 after nine.
Last game saw Ron Gear and Seth Phelyrs take a 20 end game 19-11 over Clem Hodges and Peter Mackay after leading 9-5 after 10.
Also played last Wednesday in minor singles championships Barry Wright had close win over Peter Greenhalgh while also scraping home was Barry Shine over 'Gunna' Williams.
