Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the project was part of the NSW Government's $500 million commitment to boost productivity along the Newell Highway.

"We are powering ahead with our commitment to deliver up to 30 new overtaking lanes along the Newell Highway in the next four years," Mr Toole said.

"This project is the fourth to start since March this year and will build a northbound and southbound overtaking option for motorists and freight operators.

"Construction will commence on Monday along the one and a half kilometre section of highway and will include widening road shoulders, removing trees and installing safety barriers."

Mr Toole said the Newell Highway was the economic backbone for the freight and livestock industries, residents, tourists, emergency services and business owners.

"The highway travels through a number of towns, including Forbes and Parkes, with visits from road users stopping for something to eat or staying the night, helping to support local economies," Mr Toole said.

"Once complete, the project will deliver time savings of around 25 minutes as well as increased safety along the busy freight route."

Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday, with traffic control measures, partial road closures, and closure of side roads in place where necessary.

A reduced speed limit will apply 24 hours a day with motorists advised to stick to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.
