The Donna Scott-trained Bennelong Dancer has run her last race.

Scott made the tough decision to retire her mighty mare after Bennelong Dancer's recent lacklustre performance at Bathurst where she finished at the tail of the field.

"My mare is off to the breeding barn," Scott said.

"She produced one of the worst performances of her career at Bathurst so I had the vet go over her.

"The vet couldn't find anything and when mares lose their will to compete, that's the end of them.

"She is a six-year-old mare now and rarely do mares race much longer.

"You don't see too many eight-year-old mares racing.

"She has done us all proud and boasts an impressive record.

"Because of her high rating, it's hard to find suitable races for her and she doesn't like wet tracks either so it's the wrong time of the year for her.

"Hopefully she can be as successful as a broodmare as she was on the track."

Bennelong Dancer retires with the consistent record of 22 starts with four wins and eight minor placings and career earnings of more than $260,000.

She was raced by Scott, her father, Graham Hulm, and her sister and brother-in-law Leanne Hulm and Rhys Holleran.

Bennelong Dancer stamped herself as one of the most talented gallopers in the Southern District after making three consecutive Country Championships finals.

She finished fourth in the final in her first attempt in 2018.

The six year finished near the tail of the field in this year's final in April which was also run on unsuitable heavy track.

Bennelong Dancer is the only galloper to make three consecutive Country Championships finals since being launched in 2015.
