Work steaming ahead on new Camp Street Bridge

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said crews had already completed the deck, footpath and side barriers on the bridge this year, with work on the road approaches continuing to the Camp Street side in the coming weeks.

"It's great to see this project on track to open later this year, which will deliver a safer crossing than the existing bridge for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists," Mr Toole said.

"Infrastructure projects like these are not only delivering improved safety outcomes for local communities but are supporting jobs in the bush with 50 people currently working on this key project.

"The existing Camp Street Bridge was built in 1927, and the new bridge comprising almost 2000 tonnes of concrete and 221 tonnes of steel for reinforcement, will feature wider lanes and shoulders, as well as pedestrian and cycle paths."

Forbes Shire Council has almost finished work on the road approach at Bridge Street, and work is scheduled to start on the Camp Street road approach next week, weather permitting.

This work will ensure traffic can flow safely and efficiently onto and off the new bridge.

Work has also started to create a heritage area to commemorate the old bridge, which involves reusing the old bridge lamp posts, and installing interpretative signage and tables and chairs.

The new bridge, and all other associated work, is still on track to be completed and open to traffic and pedestrians by August this year, weather permitting.
