The mural, the work of Sharon Fensom and Christine Holmes, was commissioned by the RFS and has been 12 months in the making.
RFS Mid Lachlan Valley Operational Officer, Cameron Bird, is thrilled with it.
He initiated the project, inspired by murals in Eugowra, and was delighted to work with the two signwriters from our region to see it become a reality.
This is a very local artwork: wheat crops feature in the foreground, and the Weddin Mountains form the backdrop.
A lightning strike has lit a fire in the hills that's trailing down into familiar grasslands and a forest of eucalypts.
From crews working with chainsaws to chop out a burning tree, to the iconic RFS tanker and aerial firefighting efforts, the mural seeks to tell the story of how our Rural Fire Service goes to work.
"The more you look at it, the more you see," Mr Bird said of the new installation on Thursday.
He hopes the mural, which can be viewed from Union Street, will raise awareness of the work the RFS does and their Forbes control centre.
