A two-point penalty goal to Eugowra eight minutes out from full time had the scoreboard level at 14-all, and both first grade sides had their hearts set on the win.
Both sides had their opportunities and their disappointments in the minutes that followed.
Eugowra had a player sin-binned, Trundle thought they had a try only for it to be ruled a knock-on, the fans lining the sides of the Ian Walsh football field growing increasingly vocal as the minutes ticked away.
It was 14-all at full time and that means that, for the first time, the two sides will share the honours in the Leon Goodwin Memorial Shield.
For Eugowra captain Brad McMillan, it was as good as a win.
"That was good, as good as a win for us considering we're two and four," he said after the match.
"That's the best we've played today for the 80 minutes, so to finish with 12 blokes and rally around and hold them from getting in front there was good."
Trundle was first to put points on the board and did establish a lead for themselves in the middle stages of the match. For a while they looked in control, but Eugowra made a comeback.
"I think once we started to have to play a bit of catch-up footy, we thought we had to push the pass and overplay our hand," McMillan said afterwards.
"Once we got our heads around the fact that we don't have to play that way, we started to crawl back a bit so it was good.
"Really happy with the way we played today, especially considering it was the Leon Goodwin memorial we were playing for and Eugowra has never held it," he added.
"It was a good, hard, clean game of footy."
