He started his career in the Australian Army as an armoured vehicle driver and radio operator.
Mr Lawler knows how important Anzac Day is.
“It’s important, not to glorify war, but to acknowledge that people have lost their lives protecting this country,” Mr Lawler said.
“It was for the welfare of us, so we could have a better future.”
He said people wounded, killed or harmed psychologically and those peoples’ families have suffered and continue to suffer during Australia’s conflicts.
“It’s the quiet ones who suffered most. At the end of the day the families are left,” Mr Lawler said.
